WAR BUDS: Under Attack is now live on Amazon! I must admit I enjoy writing EMP thrillers. There is something about blackouts and the sudden loss of electricity that freaks a lot of folks out because we’re so tied into our technology today. I’m not just talking about cellphones, computers and the internet but we rely on it for heat, water pumping through our pipes and all manner of things.
I remember way back when the grid went down on the eastern side of North America in 2003 and how people were reacting and what i saw in the stores. People were in a bit of a frenzy then. Now that was controlled chaos.
But what happened if the power went out in an entire nation?
And then what if it was related to a nuke?
Now you’re not just dealing with a loss of electricity you are dealing with the potential threat of radioactive fallout, that is of course if you survive the blast.
But then what if those weren’t the only threats? Now you have a real story of survival.
Next I just needed some heroes, or… unlikely heroes.
I’ve never been one for picking folks who have it altogether. I enjoy writing about flawed individuals who eventually overcome their weaknesses.
People who would be prone to make mistakes, because let’s face it. I think most of humanity including those who are trained in survival would still make mistakes. It’s human nature.
Anyway I had a blast writing this one. It starts off on a light note and by chapter 4 or 5 it morphs into a serious story, and yet those first few chapters are critical as they allow readers to get a better understanding of the type of guys they were BEFORE the SHTF event.
Originally this was going to be about 5 guys who were elite soldiers but then i thought that would be kind of boring. I mean that has been done way too many times. Soldier stories are good but let’s face it…. They’ve been trained for bad situations.
The vast majority of people aren’t soldiers, they aren’t preppers and they aren’t ready for a SHTF event.
I liked the idea of five friends who grew up with a dream of joining the military but for one reason or another didn’t enlist.
Shoot forward thirty years, where are they today? what are they doing? Are they happy? What are their struggles and challenges?
I hope you will come along for the ride. I am aiming to write three books in this series.
Feel free to leave a comment, I always answer.
Best
